Dunstan wave! It's been a few months of 5 minute flights so it was a nice change to get soaring again. The wind was NW 30kts up high but perhaps a bit too N to allow anything other than Dunstans to work. But work they did with 17kts climb (1700 fpm) at times. JR, Phil, Roland and Doug (JW) all flew 1-3hrs as far as St Bathans Range. Many thanks to Russell for the quick tows into the ideal release point just in front of the secondary wave.

Sunday 12th June 2014

A bit of wave about but not much interest in looking for it, just too dull and cold! We decided to use the day to try some full-height winch launches with the new rope (last weekend was very low cloud). Brian tickled-up the winch and John did a 2400' QNH launch in KG. Rolland did a couple of launches in VH. John's mate Dave came along to help so John took him up in JW...again getting 2400'. Doug also flew JW with Dave.

So these are good heights off the new rope in nil-wind conditions so we're very happy

Also flying about was Roger and Steve in KLM, Nick instructing in ERW and Russell called-in via R22.

Sunday 8th June 2014

Another dull day but we got airborne for a bit. Firstly we finished putting the new rope on the winch and tidied up the parachute etc. Low cloud kept the launches to 400' initially, but up to 1000' later at times.
John instructed Roy and Matt, with Brian and Phil driving the winch. Brian also flew JW briefly. The new rope seemed to work well but we look forward to trying on full-throttle cloud-base unlimited launches.
We retired to the fire early for a beer along with knot-tying instruction from Able Seaman Brian.
